Compassion Sundays
Connecting our Faith with God's Work in the World
Throughout the year St. Peter youth and adults participate in Compassion Sundays. We learn together about an organization or cause and engage in a service project as we live out our Core Value to Give Generously. Service projects have included:
- Food Bank of Iowa – School Backpack Program and School Pantry Program
- Lutheran World Relief – Personal Care Packages
- Salvation Army Breakfast Casseroles – Preparing breakfast casseroles for the Mobile Breakfast canteen that feeds the Des Moines area homeless & near homeless populations.
- Fall Outreach Sunday – St. Peter serves the Grimes Community by providing fall cleanup help
- Grimes Storehouse – Regular collections of food for the food pantry, quarter tube collection, seasonal collections
- Urbandale Food Pantry – Donation of birthday boxes for families supported by Grimes Storehouse
- Companion Congregation in Myamba, Tanzania support including Sponsorship of Myamba Student (Tuition for Hearing Impaired School)
- Outreach to Homebound Members, creating and delivering special gifts from St. Peter
- Tying fleece blankets for Mercy Hospital
- Making denim shoes for SoleHope
- Well Walk for ELCA Walk for Water
- Filled boxes for Operation Christmas Child
- Random Acts of Kindness
- Childhood Cancer (Children’s Cancer Connection & Alex’s Lemonade Stand) Fundraiser
- Spurgeon Manor – Gift bags with personal care items, word searches etc.
